The South Shore Chamber Special Service Area #42 (SSA#42) has four RFPs available for the 2010 contract year. The contracts are for Public Way Maintenance, Security, Power Washing and Landscaping.

Streetscape on 71st Street in 2010
South Shore Residents and Businesses are happy to learn at recent 5th Ward Community Meetings that 71st Street from SOUTH SHORE DRIVE/YATES/EXCHANGE to JEFFERY AVE, will receive a long-awaited streetscape renewal from THE City of Chicago.
Representatives from Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), led by Janet Attarian presented potential plans for improvements at the last 5th Ward Meeting held Tuesday, March 24, 2009 (Bret Harte Elementary School. Alderman Leslie A. Hairston urged residents to consider all 3 proposals. She urged CDOT to attend future meetings with more colorful detailed renderings for 71st Street under the 3 Options being looked at for consideration.
Some ideas CDOT presented included bike lanes, curbside bump outs and consideration of eliminating some parking spaces. The plans call for beautification ideas like hanging flower baskets, new street pole lights and a Community Identifier symbol (i.e. Bronzeville). Before any decisions are made, Alderman Hairston urges the community and particularly businesses being impacted on 71st Street to attend 5th Ward Meetings: Schedule 2009 (see more Ward information on the City's website under Ward & Alderman List (5th Ward) www.cityofchicago.org
